“Local Panlamin” Promises Magazine Subscriptions but Fails to Deliver
[December 12, 2013 – Nashville, TN] BBB warns consumers of the business practices of Local Panlamin located at 70 S Val Vista Drive Suite A3-425, Gilbert, AZ 85296, email - email@example.com. Over 85 customer complaints allege the company fails to deliver magazine subscriptions as promised, resulting in an F rating with BBB.
Specifically, complaints allege consumers were approached by a young sales person going door-to-door offering magazine subscriptions that they claimed would assist in earning college trips, promote fundraising efforts, or be used for college tuition. Some consumers felt pressured into purchasing the magazines and decided to buy a subscription in order to get the sales representative to leave their home. After making the purchase, some consumers attempted to cancel the order; however, the company failed to respond to requests or threatened collection efforts if the consumer failed to pay. The majority of complaints allege failure of the company to deliver the magazines as promised. One consumer stated, “The magazine was purchased almost a year ago. Luckily my husband had the foresight to keep the receipt. We have never received the magazine…looks as though NO ONE gets their magazine delivered after reading online complaints.” Calls to BBB over the past week indicate this company’s sales representatives are working in the Brentwood area.
“Consumers should always check on the reliability of a company before making purchases,” said Kathleen Calligan, President/CEO of BBB. “It’s easy to forget this simple step when our hearts tell us to make a purchase based on appeals for help, but in the long run it will ensure your money goes toward a worthy cause and a reputable business.”
BBB offers the following advice:
- Start With Trust: Check with BBB to verify the reliability of any company at www.Nashville.BBB.org BEFORE making a purchase. BBB Business Reviews provide valuable information regarding a company’s marketplace performance to include how they respond to customer complaints.
- Pay with a Credit Card: If a merchant fails to deliver goods as promised, your credit card company may be able to reverse the charges per The Fair Credit Billing Act.
- Know your rights: The Federal Trade Commission’s Cooling-Off Rule gives you three days to cancel purchases of $25 or more that were made away from the seller’s normal place of business (ie door-to-door sales). To cancel a sale, sign and date one copy of the cancellation form, mail it certified return receipt to the address given for cancellation, and make sure the envelope is post-marked before midnight of the third business day after the contract date. (Saturday is considered a business day; Sundays and federal holidays are not.) If the seller did not give cancellation forms, you can write your own cancellation letter. It must be post-marked within three business days of the sale.
